Why I Hate Flat Roofs

I hate flat roofs. Don't get me wrong, they can be amazing in the right circumstances, but that's not what I'm talking about today. I hate flat roofs on extensions to homes because they invariably ruin the look and feel of the home. Home being the critical word here.

When children draw a house, they don't draw flat roofs. It's ingrained in us from an early age that a home has to have key characteristics and the pitched roof is one of them. Flat roofs can look stunning, but I'm a great believer that they're not homely. To compound the issue further, I often find that they're not installed correctly causing problems later on down the line and at best lasting no more than 15 years. 

So next time you're looking at an extension to your home, listen to your architect and go for that pitched roof!
