Architecture 2018
Happy New Year!
Darkin Architects Presents "5 things to know about 2018" for Darkin Architects and the Built Environment.
1. 10 Years at the Helm
It's been a full decade since our managing director, David, took over from his father. 2008 was a stressful year for the practice with the sad loss of our founder, Byron Darkin, but also the start of many great things to come.
2. New Offices
New Year, New Offices.
We've run out of room in our current offices, so we're buying a building just for us.
Stay tuned for more details in the new year.
3. The End of Outline Planning Permission
In the Welsh Assembly's latest consultation on planning policy, they've proposed to scrap outline planning applications. This will have a major impact for developers and land owners. If this does happen, we should find out in 2018.
4. Landlords To Refurbish Properties
As of 1st April 2018 (no joke), changes to EPC Regulations mean that Landlords in England & Wales have to achieve a minimum energy performance to their properties. This may be as simple as a new boiler, but could also require more insulation or other improvements.
5. Award
We've received a nomination for an award for our design of this fabulous extension to a home in Bridgend (see photo below). We've got our fingers crossed and hope that 2018 will brings us a new accolade.
